Module 3: Structured Literacy: Phonological Awareness

Avoid a major obstacle to reading acquisition! Discover how to explicitly teach phonological awareness.

Target Audience:
K-3 teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators. 

From this module, participants will be able to…

  • Explain the importance of phonological awareness in research-based reading models. 
  • Identify the sequential skills of phonological awareness. 
  • Correctly articulate the 44 phonemes in the English language and identify their defining characteristics. 
  • Demonstrate how to teach each of the phonological awareness skills. 
  • Apply 5 for 5 structured literacy strategies for Phonological Awareness.
